Chiefs Fans Should Ignore The Noise After That Ugly Seattle Loss

The Chiefs lost badly to Seattle, but the real story is the upcoming game in Denver. Here is why the team will bounce back strong.

The Kansas City Chiefs just proved they’re the only story worth watching in the NFL right now. Forget the hype about other teams trying to catch up. The real drama is unfolding in Kansas City, where a rookie tryout and a knee-injured star are rewriting the script. A to Z Sports reported that the franchise is officially home to the league’s best narrative to open the 2026 season. That fact holds up because of what actually happened on Monday night, not because of any press release.

A Rookie Tryout Who Stole the Show

Most fans expect the starting left tackle to be a veteran with a massive contract. Not this time. Kahlil Benson, a rookie who joined the team as a tryout player earlier this year, started at left tackle on Monday Night Football. He hadn’t played that position since high school, yet he held his ground against a Denver pass rush that everyone said was scary. Per A to Z Sports, Benson nearly pitched a shutout while helping the Chiefs win by three touchdowns. He allowed just one pressure all night. It was a perfect start for a player who was invisible just weeks ago. The Broncos wanted to extend their control over the AFC West. Instead, they got a rude awakening from a guy who barely made the roster.

Walker and Mahomes Bring the Fire

The narrative centers on the stars who refused to stay down alongside the rookie line. Kenneth Walker III, the prized free-agent signing, exploded from the onset of the game and didn’t slow down. According to Audacy, he rushed 23 times for 173 yards and scored two touchdowns. He forced 14 missed tackles, a mark not seen by a Chiefs running back since 2018, per Yahoo Sports. Patrick Mahomes made his own statement by looking rusty at times but never limited. He was 15-for-27 for 184 yards and two scores, plus 23 yards on the ground. This was his first game back exactly nine months after tearing his ACL in a Week 15 loss to the Chargers in Los Angeles. Travis Kelce also made history by moving past Jason Witten for second on the all-time receiving yards list among tight ends. He broke one catch for 59 yards that nearly ended in the end zone. Nine straight third-down stops were achieved by the defense spanning the second quarter into the second half.

The Dynasty Reset Is Real

Some people said the 2025 miss ended the run. They were wrong. The Chiefs moved to No. 8 in the NFL Power Rankings after this dominant 31-10 win. On Sunday Night Football, Sept. 20, the Indianapolis Colts will be hosted by the team now. Andy Reid still has one of the best offensive minds in the game. The interior line of Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith remains elite.
