The Hit That Went Unpunished

Chiefs fans saw the play early in the contest against the Los Angeles Chargers on October 18. Daiyan Henley wrapped up Kelce in a way that looked dangerous. Writing on X, PJ Green of the Kansas City Star stated that Daiyan Henley’s tackle on Travis Kelce involved a sliding hip drop with his shoulder striking Kelce’s ankle. The NFL Office of Gameday Accountability reviewed the play and decided not to fine Henley for on-field misconduct during Week 6. They did fine rookie guard Alex Harkey $5,277 for a late hit in the fourth quarter of that same game, but the man who hurt Kelce walked away with no penalty.

Team doctors taped up Kelce’s ankle underneath and outside of his cleat last Sunday so he could return to action. He finished that game with four catches for 53 yards while playing through the pain. According to MARCA, Kelce was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Nevertheless, the official team report showed no injury designation when he entered the weekend.
