The Kansas City Chiefs are rolling into Miami with a quarterback who is finally moving right. Friday’s injury report included Patrick Mahomes, yet he carries no designation and is widely anticipated to take the field Sunday. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted that he appeared more fluid and confident during Week 2 against Indianapolis. That is the only stat that matters right now. The Dolphins are 0-2, desperate for a win, and their defense has recorded zero sacks through two games.
A Quarterback Who Is Not Far Off
Don’t let the knee injury scare you. Against the Colts, Mahomes passed for 382 yards and three touchdowns while securing an overtime victory. He is not 100 percent, but he is close. “That Mahomes might not be all the way back … but he’s not far off,” Fowler wrote in a report on Yahoo Sports. He was ripping the ball. His ability to drive throws was sharp. This comes after a late-season ACL tear in 2025, yet he is already winning back-to-back games. The Chiefs have started 2-0. The Dolphins have started 0-2. The gap is getting wider.
Dolphins Defense Has No Answers
Miami’s defense is in trouble. San Francisco scored a touchdown on each of its first five drives drives against Miami. They have 16 QB pressures, which ranks last in the league. Coach Jeff Hafley knows the problem. “We need to help each other out more back there and communicate more back there,” Hafley said. The noise on third down is too loud. The players can’t hear the calls. The foundation begins with coaching before extending down to the players. Meanwhile, rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane is ready to play for Kansas City after a full week of practice. “Good chance, yeah,” Reid said of Delane’s outlook, as quoted by Sports Illustrated. The Chiefs have a better secondary and a better pass rush.
Chiefs Focus on Stopping the Run
Kansas City knows what to expect. They need to stop De’Von Achane. “With this team, the focus first has to be on the running back (Achane),” defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said. “I think this back is legit.” His speed and ability to find open space make him the player capable of wrecking the game. Achane averaged just 3.5 yards per carry to start the season, but his speed is a threat. The Chiefs defense struggled in Week 2 against Indianapolis, giving up 132 total yards to Jonathan Taylor. They will not make that mistake twice. Through the initial two games, the Dolphins have managed to score only 26 points. They rank 26th in total offense. The Chiefs defense will get back on track. This is a golden opportunity to prove it.
