Carter Jensen Sets Rookie Record With 27 Homers For Royals

The era of greatness in Kansas City isn’t coming; it is already here. You can feel it in the air at Kauffman Stadium. Carter Jensen isn’t just a promising kid anymore. He is a force. MLB.com reports that Jensen earned American League Player of the Month honors for September. He also took home the AL Rookie of the Month award. That is a massive double win. It shows he isn’t just playing well. He is dominating the entire league.

A Historic September Performance

The numbers from last month are actually insane. Jensen hit .338 with eight home runs across 21 games. Per MLB.com, he led all of baseball in extra-base hits with 19. He also led the rookies in doubles with 10. That kind of power from a rookie catcher is rare. It is legendary. He posted a 1.194 OPS. This kid is rewriting the history books in real time.

The New Face of the Franchise

He is proving he can be the leader this team needs. Jensen hit his 25th home run of the year on September 19th against Pittsburgh. By hitting this home run, he surpassed Bob Hamelin to claim the top spot for rookie home runs by a Royal. He also broke a long-standing franchise record for leadoff home runs. According to MLB.com, he hit six leadoff homers this year. Johnny Damon in 1998 and Alex Gordon in 2011 previously held the record of five home runs. He is making old legends look like shadows. It is beautiful to watch.

Building a Winning Culture

The Royals are stacking talent faster than anyone expected. Jensen follows Jac Caglianone, who won the AL monthly award in August. The team’s 170 total home runs this season included 50 from these two young batters. The momentum is building. Jensen finished the year with 27 home runs and 81 RBI. Among all qualified American League catchers, his wRC+ of 116 stands as the highest. The future is bright, and it is wearing number 22.
