Sporting Kansas City wants to turn World Cup buzz into lasting support, and the club is handing out free tickets to make it happen. The new “First Game On Us” program invites anyone who has never been to a match to claim seats and see what a night at the stadium is about.

The offer is straightforward. Fans can claim up to two free tickets to any remaining 2026 home game, with 10 dates left in the back half of the season. The tickets land you in the Supporters Section or South Stand, they’re first come, first served, and each match has a limited number available through Sporting KC.

The push is a direct response to the summer’s soccer surge. Hosting World Cup matches turned Kansas City into a soccer hub, and the club sees an opening with fans who caught the international bug and might not yet follow the local side.

“We’re just really excited to show them what we’re all about,” said Haley Brantingham, Sporting KC’s director of integrated marketing. She framed the program as a way to move new fans from watching the global game to backing their hometown MLS team, pointing to Kansas City’s status as a host city and its self-styled reputation as the Soccer Capital of America.

The atmosphere is a big part of the sell. On Wednesday, more than a hundred kids and fans gathered outside the Compass Minerals National Performance Center with signs and flags to send the team off ahead of Thursday’s rivalry match against St. Louis City. Midfielder and left back Zorhan Bassong calls the supporters the twelfth man and said their energy pushes the team past its limits when games get tough.

Longtime fans back that up. Kristy Lambert, a member of the Kansas City Cauldron and a season-ticket holder since 2012, described the environment at the stadium as welcoming to newcomers and intimidating for opponents. She thinks the current buzz could pull in more than just fans. In her view, visitors who see the club’s facilities come away understanding how serious Kansas City is about soccer, and the growing profile could help on the recruiting side too.
